Shot in 16 mm black and white film, this character portrait of a Japanese immigrant to America explores human dignity in the face of severe adverse life trials during World War II in Manchuria as well as in Japan's post-war environment. Yoshiko Akazawa shares her experience in choosing life and survival over despair and death. Despite her tragedies, she lives a peaceful, happy life, and through her stories, she gives an example of friendship and harmony with nature. Rather than an indictment, If No War? is Yoshi's question to the world.
