In a tale that mashes up Italian Neorealism and the French New Wave, Le Grand Voyage de Giovanni tells the story of an Italian man named Giovanni who starts out with everything. After falling in love with a woman of the lower-middle class, Giovanni sees her brutally beaten by a group of bourgeoisie that don't like her kind--poor. From there, Giovanni becomes a single parent and takes care of his child... but then tragedy strikes again. At this point, Giovanni is at his lowest, and he encounters a Soothsayer at a Pinata shop that guides him on a journey to happiness. He befriends a Frenchman named Jean-Pierre, who's free-wheeling lifestyle is just what Giovanni needs. But is it enough to make him forget the past?
